ESBE’S BRASS PRODUCTS ARE MANUFACTURED FROM RECYCLED BRASS

2022-08-30

Did you know that brass can be recycled over and over again? An eloquent example are the brass bars used in ESBE’s production. They are made almost exclusively from recycled scrap brass.

Brass is a metal that can be recycled endlessly. Recycling brass is also profitable compared to new production. For us at ESBE, sustainability has always been important and our more than 110-year history contains many proofs of that. One of them would we like to talk a little extra about.

ESBE recycles 500 tons of brass shavings per year

From carefully selected suppliers, we buy in approx. 900 tonnes of brass rods each year. Close to 90 percent of the raw material for these rods consists of scrap and recycled material. On site in our factory, the brass is pressed and processed into various components, for example valve housings. During this process, shavings and leftover brass are formed, which are taken care of automatically already at the machines. The treated brass shavings from the machining department are transported directly to a centrifuge where they are dried. The shavings are then packed in sacks and are now ready for recycling. In this way, approx. 500 tonnes of shavings are returned to the supplier, who recycles the material and creates new brass rods. In connection with the delivery of new raw material, the recycled brass shavings are loaded for return directly to the brass manufacturer. In other words, no unnecessary transports.

What is brass made of?

If you Google, you will find this fact on Wikipedia:
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, in proportions which can be varied to achieve varying mechanical, electrical, and chemical properties.

This lead-free brass thing?

To improve the cutability of brass, a small amount of lead is added. The lead addition also results in a finer surface and reduced tool wear. Lead is a metallic element that is harmful to humans and nature.
ESBE’s brass products contain lead levels below recommended limits. Please read more about our lead-free valve series VTA 300 among related articles, below.
