THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN; THE FIRST CANDLE IS LIT!
2024-12-03
The tradition of Advent candles has its roots in the 19th century. White candles were placed in a Christmas candlestick, where each candle was assigned a sacred meaning connected to the Christmas celebration. In many Swedish households, it is a cultural rather than a religious act. But regardless, we can agree that lighting the first candle is to awaken hope, the second as a wish for peace, the third as a tribute to joy, and the fourth as a symbol of love.
The symbolism is as relevant today as when the tradition began and can be a reminder of what we value most in life.
“Julverkstá”!
Our annual 'Julverksta' is a highlight of the year at ESBE. We come together to celebrate the holiday season with festive crafts and delicious treats. This year, our team had a blast making toffee, truffles, and beautifully decorated Christmas trees. The workshop was filled with the sounds of Christmas music and the sweet aroma of baking. It's a wonderful opportunity to bond with colleagues and get into the Christmas spirit!
We lit the first candle - a little early. A moment of stillness and reflection in the midst of the Christmas frenzy. It's a beautiful tradition, especially when the days have become shorter and the nights colder.
As the final touch to our Christmas workshop, we savored a traditional Swedish Christmas ham, paired with tangy mustard and served on a warm, crusty ale bread. Now we're feeling festive and ready for Christmas!
Take it easy in the Christmas rush!
ESBE and staff wish you a wonderful December, take it easy in the Christmas rush and don't forget to blow out the candles after the cozy time!
