DAN BENGTSSON, EXPERIENCED PRODUCT DEVELOPER AT ESBE
2024-09-24
We're incredibly proud of our product development department at ESBE. A team of seven dedicated employees work here, transforming ideas into innovative products. Our projects often involve complex development, but equally as important is our focus on down-to-earth solutions, always prioritizing quality, long-term sustainability, and innovative thinking.
One of these talented product developers, Dan Bengtsson, has been an integral part of ESBE for 30 years!
But - can we be sure that it is Dan who comes to ESBE, and not his twin brother?
30 years! That means you started at ESBE in 1994. How did you end up here?
- I first encountered Mats Skogsfors when he became a partner in the company I was working for at the time. Our conversation led to an offer for the position of product developer/product specialist in ESBE's Development Department. And now in August, as we mentioned before, I have been here for just over 30 years!
What does a product developer do at ESBE?
A product developer's role at ESBE is a dynamic blend of creativity, logic, and technology. The day might start with deep concentration in front of a computer, where new product ideas and designs take shape. A significant portion of the work also involves refining existing products or solutions. Every detail and measurement within a product must be meticulously considered.
Often the calm development process is interrupted by urgent needs in production or meetings where new projects are discussed. As Dan puts it:
- The work is diverse. It's uncommon to spend the entire day focused on a single task!
CAD – an essential/ indispensable tool
A substantial portion of the work takes place within CAD programs. With the help of CAD, ESBE's developers can twist and turn their digital creations. It's like having a virtual workshop where you can measure, adjust and combine different parts. This ensures that every detail fits seamlessly together. The CAD drawings of ESBE products are frequently used by architects and engineers in digital models for buildings and systems. Find ESBE at MagiCAD >>
At ESBE, you face both exciting challenges and great successes every day. Is there something in your job that feels challenging right now??
- Currently, we're focused on ensuring our products meet the highest quality standards. It is an important task that requires commitment and cooperation from the entire team.
What is the key to enjoying a workplace for so long?
Dan believes it's about working for a company that's constantly evolving.
- When you work for a company like ESBE, which is always developing, you also develop yourself. If I look at the Product Development department, we have many times more employees today compared to when I started. Our expertise has broadened, and we learn from each other. As long as you continue to develop and feel you can contribute, there's no inherent need to change workplace. This makes the job always meaningful and stimulating. It's a privilege to work in such an inspiring environment.

You've been here for a while... maybe you have a funny memory from ESBE you can share?
- This is not directly related to our business, but I am a twin and it can sometimes lead to funny situations.
I was fairly new to ESBE and came to work on a Monday morning. After about an hour, one of the production technicians got in touch and asked me to come down to Kelva pump manufacturing and tell Nisse Sjögren that I was a twin. During the weekend, Nisse had encountered my twin brother, Ulf, at a restaurant. Nisse tried repeatedly to catch my eye and say hello, but I didn't acknowledge him. Nisse was clearly upset and on Monday morning, he expressed his disappointment to his coworkers. He said that "That Dan seems like a tight bastard". Fortunately, some of his colleagues knew the truth and assured Nisse it must have been my twin brother. But Nisse was adamant, insisting, 'No, it was absolutely Dan who was at the restaurant yesterday '.
After I arrived and explained to Nisse that I hadn't been to any restaurant and that my brother and I are very similar, often leading to mistaken identities, he burst into laughter. We laughed about it many times during the years we worked together. I could hardly pass his department without him reminding me of the incident.
The best thing about working at ESBE
When we ask Dan what is the best thing about working at ESBE, he answers that it's the community and the opportunity to be involved and make an impact that he most appreciates. Working at a company where development, production and sales take place under the same roof creates a unique dynamic.
- Being able to work so closely with colleagues from different departments is invaluable, Dan says.

2024 - UPTT500
Looking Towards the Future!
- If I look at the positive development the company has had since I started here 30 years ago, I hope and believe we will continue in the same spirit in the coming years. It will be interesting to see how ESBE positions itself in the future amid the energy transition Europe is currently facing.
Thanks, Dan, for the chat. You have many stories to tell!
A big CONGRATULATION and thank you for 30 years at ESBE!
