BRASS SHAVINGS FROM ESBE’S FACTORY ARE RECYCLED AND BECOMES MORE NEW ESBE PRODUCTS

ESBE recycles 500 metric tonnes of brass each year
As you can imagine, we use quite a lot of brass in our production. Each year we purchase circa 900 tonnes of brass rods from carefully selected suppliers. To lower our climate impact, we purchase brass that’s made from 90% recycled material – a recycling process we also take part of.
The brass rods we purchase are processed in different ways to create components to our products, such as valve housing or slide shoes. The processing of the rods creates a lot of left-over brass shavings. Shavings we collect, dries, packages and sends back to our brass suppliers. Our suppliers then use the shavings to create new brass rods. Each year we resend circa 500 tonnes of brass shavings.
Brass and lead, what’s the deal?
Brass is an alloy that consists of copper and zinc. To make the brass easier to cut, a low amount of lead is added. In addition, it also gives the brass a finer surface and reduces tool wear. Of course, all brass ESBE uses contain lead levels below recommended limits.
We also produce a valve series with lead free brass (max 0,1 percent lead) – VTA300. You can read more about the lead-free series via the links below.
